EDIT EDIT: It looks like Adobe is End-Of-Life'ing CS2, so they've taken down the licensing servers and have released new versions of the software that don't phone home. It doesn't seem to be free for legal use after all. =/
The whole thing seems to have been a game of 'Telephone'. Sorry for getting everyone's hopes up.
So what are the download links for then? Are they the actual program that is supposed to work with the number thing they have posted next to it? This makes me worry about downloading stuff even if it's from adobe when I dont know what it is.
They work, but they don't convey a legal license to use the software unless you already have a valid license for CS2. The activation servers have been shut down, so the old versions of the software won't validate.
The gist is, you can use it, but if you use it in a business environment you'll get dinged if you're ever audited.
so does that mean that it'll work if we download it... like not expire like a trial would? If so I might go ahead and still download it perhaps just to mess around with. I have an older version of photoshop that came with my tablet but yeah it's not up to par with what I'd like to do. I have SAI and gimp though so idk if it's even worth downloading it. Idk why they have to get rid of their older versions and keep coming out with more expensive newer versions. Why cant they just still sell their older versions too but at a discount or something? I would have bought it already but I dont have $200-400 dollars just lying around to buy an art program x.x
It'll work, and it won't expire. The CS2 versions of the software aren't supported under Windows 7 or 8, but will install and work fine under most circumstances. There are a lot of reasons publishers don't publish multiple versions of their software at once, mostly having to do with marketing and support logistics.
I figured it had to do with marketing... but their newer versions have way more stuff to do etc. and dont really compete with their older versions so it's not like they arent going to sell any of them. I just find it ridiculous that they charge and arm and a leg for something that is digital and is software. I could see $200 but $400+ is just crazy unless it has an animation program, 3D program, etc. combined with it. Though some of their newer ones I think do have some of these things included so that's not so bad.
They supply a "license key" on the site. No idea if that counts though. I'm not using it, but I don't see anywhere in the site/page/download etc that says you need a valid license. That's like posting your work on DA and saying no one can download the image without a license.
Lol. I'll follow what appears to be correct for now. I'll hedge my bets.
A bit annoying. Even a free copy of an old old old Photoshop Elements would be a bit more handy than Gimp for some things. I mean, I can download 30 day demos, but it's not as convenient as a permanently usable version.

Get it while it's hot!
