VTOL Gunship by MikeDoscher VTOL Gunship by MikeDoscher
This is a concept I did for a VTOL Transport/Gunship aircraft for the upcoming MMORTS title 'End of Nations':

I feel very fortunate to be part of the team bringing this project to life. A good number of the units were designed by me, and I'll be sharing more as they become public.

The concept is based on a mix of the Osprey and the C-130, so yeah. :)

I've considered doing something like that, but the core of *how* I do it is pretty simple, but it's the little things that add up to make the concepts work. Really, I'm thinking a series of illustrated cheat sheets on different details might be the way to go.

Petroglyph was founded by what was essentially the C&C core team after they left EA. I've met these guys in passing, but I don't generally interact with them on a day to day basis. Mostly I report to my lead and sublead, and they're the ones who interact with the designers.

they can not fie out of the sides, it is a hazard due to the nacelle and proprotors - this is why the V-22 doesn't have them

Thank you. :) I really like the combination as well- there are a lot of really interesting color combinations on civilian and military aircraft from the 1930s that I keep finding act as subliminal inspirations.

I guess the cockpit could be in a "barrel"?

:iconmikedoscher:

It would have to be something like that- Possibly, the cockpit could be arranged so that the positions of the pilots within the space rotated, but this presents hazards and maintenance problems.

Does it cost money each month like world of war craft or is it free?

It's subscription based. The exact amount per month hasn't been determined yet, though.

Very good take on the VTOL idea. I don't think contra rotors are needed, but you probably added them for aesthetics and not believability.
I like the moving wing idea. The pull of the wings, and the lack of lift are a real problem with real VTOL planes, although a headwind helps. I'd love to see a model aircraf of this :D

Very nice, a VTOL version of a spectre I'd say, but wouldn't that tilting wing cause problems for aerodynamics?

I'm certain. :) I couldn't see this as being practical other than as a fly by wire aircraft.

The front opening like that seems like a bad idea to me, if it's flying around like a plane the front receives the most direct wind and there's the possibility of the wind catching onto one of the openings there and riping the front of the plane open, which would probably kill the pilots.

It's pretty common on large transport aircraft. Positive airflow over the front of the aircraft tends to keep big clamshell doors closed, even when unlatched. Also, a crosswind powerful enough to overcome the forward airflow *and* tear open the locking mechanism would tend to have disastrous effects for the aircraft overall, regardless of the door.

The door is on the big side, and has a more florid way of opening than anything real. This is because of the aesthetic and gameplay problems related to showing what a unit is doing even when it's real small on the creen.
