Type 23 Special Weapons Carrier by MikeDoscher Type 23 Special Weapons Carrier by MikeDoscher
This is a 3D treatment of a vehicle I did in a painting awhile back: [link]

I completed the concept illustration, though by no means am I done with the model yet. There's some tweaking to do on the other side and the back, and it still needs to be rigged to show off the weird suspension.

EDIT: Download it to get the full effect. The texture compression murders this one.

This is quite creative and interesting. It has a menacing look too.

I'm intrigued with that suspension design. It could be used to negotiate abrupt terrain transitions if you took off those front bumpers and perhaps that front panel on the nose.
Military vehicles need to be able to go up steep hills. But you don't want to plow your nose into the bottom of the hillside!
Your adjustable adjustable suspension could be for that. just an idea..

I started figuring out how the suspension would work a while back, but I never fully rigged it. Here's a test animation of it changing modes: titancity.tumblr.com/post/4585…

Nice going, man. Is this a tank destroyer?

Thanks- It's not so much a tank destroyer as mechanized artillery based on an APC chassis. The closest analog would be one of those M113s turned into a support unit, or possibly the Sd.Kfz. 4/1.

A little, but with some added ability to engage enemy infantry and light armor via the turreted 23mm. Maybe more like something in between a Sagger-armed BRDM and a Sturmtiger. Think urban warfare.

As a standard Rocket Artillery platform, it's quite blech as a concept.

However, as an Urban Battlefield Mobile Artillery, I like most everything about it except for the exposed hydraulics on the wheels. Hydraulics exposed while the rocket pods are deployed is forgivable and difficult to avoid while making a design. I also curious as to the purpose of the bulges on the top of the rocket pods as they would likely interfere with operation of the machinegun turret in defensive situations in an urban environment even when the rocket pods are not deployed. I would advise a third deployable pod that could house the auxiliary systems I suspect to be housed in those two bulges.

It's meant to represent the sort of odd interim concept you would see late in a conflict, where the need is both pressing and likely to use an existing unit as the basis. It's a little like the Panzerwerfer 42 in terms of broad outline, but I wanted to explore the anime cliche of the spider tank and how that could be made to fit into a less stylized setting.

The bulges at the top incorporate the sensor and communication packages that patch the unit into the local control network. The rear of the enclosure contains an APU and various electronics, and is largely a self contained unit derived from another platform. The enclosure is pretty flamboyant, but I wanted to know how it would read in context. The barrel clears, but a significant depression of the weapon isn't possible. I treated all these systems as awkward retrofits from other sources, thrown together in a somewhat slapdash design.

The rocket pods don't really need something like hydraulics to elevate them. This was another concession to form. Likely they would just need a screw jack and some sort of elevating arm made of either tube steel or a forging.

In that context... I'm quite impressed with the incorporation of an inherent design flaw as a result of rushed development resulting potentially from desperation and to that I applaud you.
