Another Rocketship Empires:1936 illustration, to be used in an upcoming sourcebook. Getting more comfortable with a fully digital painting workflow.

Germany is testing two prototypes of the Space Stuka in Afghanistan at the moment. They are flown by clones of Oberst (Colonel) Hans-Ulrich Rudel.
Of course they do not have the markings of the Legion Condor anymore, but the markings of the modern Bundeswehr and the NATO.

Yes, I have served with the German Army and could probably tell you more, but this project is still “STRENG GEHEIM”! Please don’t show it to anybody outside of Deviant Art!

LOL! Not pictured: Hanna Reitsch bobblehead next to the reflector gunsight.

Yes, the "Weltraumsturzkampfflugzeug mit Raketenantrieb" is not complete without the "Wackelkopf, Modell Hanna Reitsch" bobblehead! It just doesn't feel right...

Neat... nice concept. Just one question...

Why the U-shaped lever for the bomb when there's no longer any propeller? :D

It really doesn't need to be there, from a purely functional standpoint. Within the continuity of the game world you could justify it being there as a wish by the designers to preserve as great a parts commonality as possible between the spaceborne vessel and the aircraft it was derived from. The testbed aircraft probably retained the piston engine up front as well.

Though in all truth the reason it's *really* there is to make it look as much like a Stuka as possible, even if it's a little silly. :)

Well, it could be a bit justified by the fact that the radiator is still down there :)

Anyway, thanks for the (mighty fine) answer.
