Siege Mecha WIP by MikeDoscher Siege Mecha WIP by MikeDoscher
There's a lot of work left to be done on it, but I thought I'd share what I've been working on. 3ds Max 2008, rendered with Mental Ray.

His stance and everything remind me a lot of Metal Gear Rex(from Metal Gear Solid in case you didn't know), I like it alot.Good job ^_^.

Holy crap, its amazing. I love the style, and the green suits it perfect. How did you make that material?

nice shape-style! critic from an engineering student ;) : it looks like teh mass centre is to far in the backpart so that the mecha might fall down . there shoukld be either a large conterweight on the head of the bot pe a big gun :D or you could put the legs less leaned backwards, more upright. or you could do the heel-pads larger and longer

You're right. Once I added more of the details to the limbs I ended up moving the torso forward on the pelvis. I also increased the size of the limbs by 15%, which seems to give a more pleasing sense of proportion to the entire thing. I'll probably end up increasing the size of the heel pads as well. It just doesn't feel quite massive enough yet.

The texturing and color scheme look great. Is that another missile pod overhead?

That's a very interesting style for the missile housings, I like it. They look easy to replace and reload (and to direct the blast away when things go boom). =)

What are you going to call this baby? DeLoreanmech? =D

I'm thinking of leaving it kind of nebulous, but I was thinking of early Cold War vehicles like the M48 and IS-3, and was intrigued at the way so may of them soldiered on for so long and would up with weird upgrades. Once I get this rigged I'll be putting it out as a stock model on Turbo Squid as a test to see whether or not it might be worthwhile to use them.

 Early cold war era would have been my guess. The look is just right then. And the dash of nebulousness (that a word?) is also healthy for the imagination.:D

That being the case, I agree w/ your hesitation over the rocket pods. Personally, I'd reduce the # of rockets. Bad for gaming, good for realism.

Also, was wondering what sort of weapon arms those were. :?

Love the added-on work-horse feel of this guy.

Oh, the arms are just unfinished. XD I'm tempted to reshape the pod covers so that the back is open, and have the missiles launch from tubes, possibly three per side.

I would say less is more, projectile wise. :twocents:

Also, if I may be so bold, I'd suggest alternate weapons on the arms.
Knuckles+MG, or Flamethrower + cannon kinda thing --for that 'upgraded' multi-tasker look.

Yeah, I'm not totally sold on those. I'm tempted to either make the pods bigger or delete them.

I know it's a WIP and if you already have thought of putting in ankle support, ignore my earlier critique. ;)

I would put a shock absorber piston and stabilizers between the lower leg and the rear toe, considering your ankle is a ball joint. Or, a heel stub like metal gear rex has. Just seems like a lot of weight for just ball joints to handle. Looks great otherwise!

Oh yeah, the legs need a lot more work. I'm probably going to be doing a major revision of the lower leg details and changing things from my original concept- they just don't look bulky enough as is.
