Mobile Artillery by MikeDoscher Mobile Artillery by MikeDoscher
Originally, this was a sort of technical exercise to take the very anime-ish conceit of the 'spider tank' and try and paint a thick and drippy coat of realism on the idea. One thing led to another, and I worked up a small scene centered around the vehicle the remnants of the supporting infantry.

The vehicle backstory is this: An aging APC chassis converted into a rocket artillery unit. The batteries lower and are reloaded hydraulically from a magazine between the tube bays. Normally, the gun would be traversed to the rear when firing rockets to prevent damage to the barrel and muzzle brake. In this case, the commander has left the gun deployed to be able to more quickly engage infantry or light armor. This is the sign of either a highly experienced or dangerously inexperienced crew.

I feel like I'm finally getting to the point where I'm actually *painting* as opposed to coloring a drawing. It's very different.

That look pretty bad ass, but if the anti personnal gun lock anything on the right or the left, the missiles are gonna hurt the gun while firing, destroying it and detoning right above the tank, destroying it.

So it's pretty, but it's dum.

Too bad, because i really like how it looks.

Probably my favorite drawing made by you. You have a freakin' good talent, I'm jealous.

How much time it took you to draw this? I'm curious.

And as we say in France: "C'est superbe!".

Thank you, I'm very flattered. :) This took a couple of weeks, but I wasn't working on it continuously. I was also figuring some things out about painting, so I don't know whether to add that to or subtract that from the time.

Excellent design, and looks very real and practical, you can see how this thing would be put together and assembled, I especially dig the level of detail you have included on the rocket launch bins.

Thanks. While I did it originally as a sort of formal exercise, about halfway through I got to thinking that this might make a cool 3D model, so I started planning out the little details. :)

There is a noted difference in this work than in your past productions. I like it; but don't forget how to do the more informative line drawings!

Keep up the good work.

Great design. I am always in awe/jealousy of your mechanical designs' proportions. You manage to achieve a lot with relatively few masses/forms.

And I can see the painting :D This is a good direction! It adds extra weight and "punch" to the image.

It turned out really ace Mike and, always, I love the aged sepia vibe you put into your work (as you probably already know something I love to do now and then as well). Love the tire configuration, very cool. I also love the way you put together the modular shapes and sculpt of the vehicle's body, it has both a modern and retro vibe going on.

It does have a sufficiently real world vibe while still being rather future/sci techy. An approach you've always done convincingly with a real sense of your own signature style. Obviously I've been in a more aesthetics driven, borderline, fantasy territory with my work but I always consider and appreciate a sense of realism in these type of designs. Whether implying a suspension of disbelief or shooting for a more straight forward realistic look there are challenges either way you go. It's always more difficult to make something really convincingly real-world though as the pseudo-sci cheat card (think we talked about this before) moves into diminishing returns the more realistic you go. It's fun to tackle these challenge whichever way you go, I'd say, but it can twist the brain at times.

Very cool indeed good sir :D

Thank you. :) This is really something that's grown more out of my day job stuff that Titan City. I suppose it's just chasing a particular idea to its conclusion. You've got something very interesting going on as well, and it's been inspiring in a parallel way.

You're totally welcome man and my thanks in return for the kind words :) Aye, I kinda had a sense it wasn't related to your Titan City work so I hear you there.

I have to concur on the sense of parallel inspiration, totally. I've been really enjoying seeing your work approaching similar aesthetic themes in your own uniquely distinct way. That's always inspiring seeing that, always. I, certainly, plan to continue to move forward with that spirit and am humbled to be a part of contributing to that inspiration.

Best!
