This was an experiment to see how small I could make a tank before it becomes so impractical that you would only see Shriners using it in parades. I played around with the idea of moving the breech of the gun outside of the turret and encasing it in an armored sleeve. Rounds are chambered with an autoloader that charges the gun through a gap in the front armor beneath the mantlet. Due to limits of the human body, the turret can rotate only about 45 degrees to either side. I'll probably keep messing with this basic idea further.

Pencil sketch with digital coloring.

Both the british armed forces and the german military have scout/support tanks that are not really bigger. Their gun is far smaller though. I just forgot what the names of the tanks are.... me and my scatterbrain...

My biggest qualm with this design is how you'd store ammunition, as it looks pretty cozy in there even when that isn't considered...

The idea was to use a rotary magazine with an autoloader angled up between the legs of the driver/commander. If I were to take this design forward, there are a number of things I would have to rethink.

Well if there werent that dude, you d hardly be able to actually tell the size of the thing... ^_^;

BTW those truck supports or hinges or how do you name it seem kinda weak to me. I kinda doubt they could withstand the weight of that vehicle, not even the stress when it needs to steer or move in rugged terrain.

Yeah, that suspension is the outgrowth of an idea I had a long time back that never really worked. I should revisit this concept with a fresh eye. There's something about the constraints that make it interesting to me.

Very nice... maybe the thing is agile enough that a turretless design would work?

Turretless= bigger gun

Like a one-man midget Marder, and put an 88mm on it!

Thanks. Yeah, something this small would probably only world believably as an unmanned drone or possibly a two-person tankette. The alternative is as you suggest: Possibly some sort of recoilless gun fixed on the long axis. Kind of a scaled up version of this: [link]
