Heavy Construction Suit by MikeDoscher Heavy Construction Suit by MikeDoscher
This is a half-page illustration for my book project. This will be in one of the six of so spreads I'll be mocking up, so a version with the layout/text of the book should be forthcoming.

While this isn't a spacecraft, it'll be complimenting some exposition about the equipment and challenges of getting things done in trans-saturnine space.

Reminds me of an Orang-utan, if they had 4 arms and 4 legs that is ;D.

Very nice, your style is easy to recognise, heavy and industrial.
Wish I can build something like that eventually. Haven't really gotten into robots yet.

Thank you. As far as robots go, you may find that many of the elements you need for an interesting legged unit are already present in the elements that make up a construction or armored vehicle. I'm continually amazed at the functional beauty and complexity of things like multifunction arms for backhoes, and how easily their motifs can be repurposed.

You're a very good modeler, you know.

Thanks! I've been thinking about such components myself, I think I'll get some models that I can look at in detail.
Thanks again for your positive comment, I respect your opinion!

When the book is released, how will I be able to purchase it?

That will depend on which publisher, if any, I'm able to find the book a home with. :)

Don't worry though, my self-promotion will be relentless- I'll certainly not keep quiet about it when it becomes available.

As usual, the design is fantastic, but the colors just push it over the edge into AWESOME.

Multi-limbed construction suits really aren't used enough. I mean, it's pretty silly to assume there would be no one coordinated enough to manage controlling them all.

This... is ace. I really dig the somewhat yellow ocher color it has and love the modular shapes. You have something both aesthetically pleasing visually and very much communicating "construction" in design. I haven't had a chance to comment a lot in the last few months but I want to note, here and now, the more I read about your book the cooler it sounds :)

Thanks, I'm glad you like the design. As far as the book goes, I've been working on it in the back of mind for longer than I knew. Just trying to find the right form, I suppose.

Maybe I haven't paid too much attention, but I think that's the first piece of scrap metal I've seen in your artwork that has been torch cut (it looks torch cut anyway lol). Sorry if that was random lol.

Also love the vibrance, it brings everything to life! Look forward to the book project, you have to let me know when that gets done! :aww:

I think it is, actually. :) I've got a sketch or two of different things made of thick plate with rough edges around here somewhere, but I haven't scanned any of them. Sometimes even the simplest and crudest of materials can be remarkably sculptural.

I'm glad you like what I'm doing- I'll be sure to keep you posted on it. :)

Very nice. Reminds me of the time I rented a Bobcat skid-steer "loader". Surprisingly fast machine, and dangerously powerful too.

Newer earthmoving equipment amazes me, and served as a lot of the inspiration for how I think about mecha designs.
