This is a progress shot of part of a personal project, going under the name 'Working Boats of the Outer Planets'. This is a mining/construction vessel called the 'Turbary Celt'. The cutaway view is reasonably far along, and I've sketched in some rough indications where the text and additional art will go. This first spread is more of a feasibility study, but I'm hoping to get this project published someday. I'm aiming for a fusion of the Steven Biesty cross-section books with more of David Macauley's humor and sense of narrative, as well as the immersive 'in character' feel of the old Terran Trade Authority books.

Oh, if you download the image you can see it twice as big as fullview, which might show you more detail.

I work for a game company called Petroglyph, but this piece is something for a personal project.

Excellent work as usual. Were you planning on developing this as a pure 2D story/design or maybe 3D?

I think I'll probably just keep this whole project 2D, though I'm considering exploring 3D renders that have been reworked in Photoshop.
