Business Card by MikeDoscher Business Card by MikeDoscher
I did a quick business card design for myself this weekend. Graphic design isn't really my specialty, but I figure it'll be better that scrawling the URL on a napkin with human blood.

Oh, the website isn't live yet, but it'll be ready in time for GDC next week. Hope to see some of you guys there!

The text being different widths looks off, and I think you might need more contrast in the background to make it look this nice in print. Solid design though.

What? You got something against blood on napkins?! Well then, maybe I'll just take my business elsewhere. Good day, sir!

don't forget to put your phone number, and maybe another line for your name.

I don't know, human blood and napkins does have a certain appeal:rofl:
But if you really want to make an impression, write on money, the larger the note the better:giggle:

I'm not sure the card has to be super fantasticin design so long as the basics are covered and identifiable.

It's a cool card though,I wouldn't worry.

I agree with badboythemer on this one. It's too busy for a business card.
My suggestion is something high contrast and low detail, leaving a lot to the imagination. A silhouette, perhaps?

Best of luck!

I agree, that would be a better looking design. Thing is though, I'm going to to be giving these out at GDC in an environment oversaturated with information and a certain uh, 'busy' sensibility. I'd someone that gets a hold of the card to be curious enough about the artwork to go to the website, so I gotta give 'em a little slice and this is what I came up with on short notice. There's undoubtedly a better solution, and I'll be incorporating the feedback I've gotten into the next iteration. This first batch is small, anyhow. :)

You need some way to make the font stand out, like make it more depth-y

Though it probably won't do anything, I will link your site from mine when it is up. I will be sure to look at it too when it comes out... Can't wait!

Thank you. I might just take you up on that. I needed these by the end of the week, so I had to fly solo this time around. :)

hmm it's too crowded imo mate, stick to making it just the img, but fade it into the actual bg, this way your text can overlap, and be very stylish in doing so ;) plus it would be 100% better as a wide card, rather than tall. plus a more comic font would be more suitable for your particular style of design. And please lose the huge border it kills it, takes the eys of the center info on the card and makes em first see the ugly border. So if you do this all correctly it should look something like this.

card front - Image / Logo /

card back - Company or persoanl details name , email etc / brief outlining of services you offer

hope that helps ;)

Those are some good points, and I'll keep them in mind when I do a revised version after the show. Thanks. :)

front: Logo, Name, Contact details
back: Services/appointment details, additional information.

Important stuff goes on the front, know why? A heck of a lot of people don't think to read the back. No joke most women don't flip cards unless you tell them too- it's kind of funny but I've definitely noticed it.

Considering the print size (I'm guessing you went to print as 90 long) I wouldnt worry about the border size at all, just your font readability.

The only thing I'd change about your design is the strength of the chocolate brown, right now it's blending in to the fudge (omg. made self hungry.) like a gooey delight, but what you really want is either something almost watermark and intriguing to bring out the focus on your work example, or a nice bold contrast.

It's filled with personality and is wonderfully reminiscent of the coveted mucha-esque effect. The point of a designer/artist's card is to give an instant impression. This does, and it's a great one.
